The adhesive used for attaching the braces to your teeth dries rapidly, but takes 24-hours to completely cure. You will probably notice some discomfort beginning a few hours after the braces are placed. Some teeth, usually the front teeth, may be "tender” and sensitive to pressure. For pain management, you may choose to take non-prescription pain remedies that you would commonly take for other discomforts such as headaches, at your typical dosage. For maximum effectiveness, it may be best to take such medications before the discomfort begins.
Initially, your braces may feel like they “stick out.” This is normal. As you become accustomed to your braces and your tooth alignment improves, this sensation will disappear. Your cheeks may also have some discomfort at the beginning. The brackets have all been rounded and smoothed to prevent discomfort, yet until your cheek tissues have “toughened,” you may find it helpful to use a small piece of dental wax around the bracket that is causing the irritation. Before applying the wax, you may dry to area to help the wax adhere better.

Yes! We recommend wearing a mouth guard for all sports. We recommend using the Shock Doctor mouth guard and not boil and bite since it could easily adhere to the braces when biting down.
